Decisions

Life is full of them. Decisions.

I have started looking for a new job. This has been one of the hard decisions. I currently thrive and enjoy working at Washington State University. The opportunities and learning that have been available to me there have been priceless. Unfortunately the university and the organization has been going through a lot of changes. I am not afraid of change and believe that with change comes opportunity. What I am noticing is that the changes that are being made are not going to lead me to the bright and happy place that I always imagined.

So is it time to move on? I guess that is what we are waiting to see. I feel there is still so much that I could offer the university. I started looking about a week ago and have had one offer already. The offer involved me moving to Colorado. I love Colorado and would be willing to move but not to take a cut income. With the side work and salary work I do here not to mention family and friends moving was not the responsible thing to do.

I have entered into the second phase of the interview process with another local company and may have another decision to make here in the coming weeks.

Another department on campus has also contacted me and I will be interviewing with them next week. So with all these changes and decisions I look at my current situation like a new chapter in a book. You know the feeling were you finish one chapter of a book but it is so good that you cannot wait to find out what comes next. That is how I feel about my life right now. I am so thankful for my wife and all my family for the support and strength they are to me.

Stay tuned for the next chapter.

Post number 2

So you can tell that this is still a new blog site since the title of the blog contains a running count. I figure I would share the good times that I have been having. I am DONE with my degree. I took the one summer course this summer and now I have officially finished all the requirements for graduation and I am expecting to receive my diploma in the next couple weeks.

With all this free time that has opened up in the place of homework I have started to do lots of fun things that have been put on hold for the last 6 or 7 years. I got a sax around Dec. and now I am trying to relearn what I knew when I was in junior high. I just finished playing intramural soccer with some of my friends from work. I am also playing basketball every Wednesday. My body is not recovering as fast it did seven years ago :(

Work is going smoothly despite the new president and all the changes on both the IT and Marketing side of my job. I know that prioritize are changing but I am not sure when, or how, or to what. So the last month has been the month for rumors and gossip and nothing concrete. I figure I will wait and see. No reason not to be optimistic.

First Post

As you can see from the name of this blog I am Adam Murphy. I figured that I would start my own blog. My family has a blog but we do not use it very much any more. We mostly use ourmurphlife.com to post pictures and share family news.

I wanted to get my own blog going to share my thoughts about the world, the Web and intrests that are unique to me.

I work at Washington State University and today my firt big project went from Beta into production. This is a big deal since I invented, and wrote the way the system works. As far as I know we are the only university and maybe the only institution that has utilized dynamic CSS to create a instution wide template management system.

If you are interested in taking a look at the way the system works take a look at web.wsu.edu. The part that is the coolest is the Template Designer. Follow thru the process of designing your own look and feel by selecting the colors and images that are used for the site. The changes that you select will happen in real time and be reflected on the current page. When you complete all the steps you can take your design key and paste it into a generic HTML file that I provide and your HTML file will then take on the look that you choose in the Template Designer. It is pretty neat. The system is catching on really fast and people are enjoying the ease of designing pages with the new tools.

Well that should be all for now. Only four more weeks till graduation!

Go Cougs.
